Jim and Karan

Jim and Karan, both New Jersey natives, each received a call to missions during short-term missions trips they took during college.  Jim is an ordained minister and had a D.Min. in missions, and Karan has a Ph.D. in counselor education.

Jim and Karan ministered in the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa for nearly 40 years.  Jim has served as director of the Central Asian Study Center and the Turkic World Ministries of the Zwemer Center.  Together, Jim and Karan lead Bible study groups, developed a national radio follow-up ministry and trained national workers and pastors.  They have begun a new ministry with ethnic people in the greater New York City area.  The ministry has a U.S. and overseas connection to create church-planting opportunities both in NYC and internationally.

Seth & Nicole Stokes

Seth and Nicole recently accepted an assignment as missionaries to Vanuatu.  They have had two years of intense cross-cultural training, four years of Biblical training and been involved with local and foreign churches for their entire lives.

Seth and Nicole have been called to serve through Harvest Baptist Church, Natrona Heights, PA.  Their mission is to work with the unreached people groups in Vanuatu.

Nicole (Terranova) grew up in our congregation and we are thankful to God that she, and her husband, have dedicated their lives to serving Christ on the foreign mission field.

Maple Leaf After School Club - Brick, NJ

In the spring of 2013, several churches came together to help the children who live at the Maple Leaf Apartments in Brick, NJ. The volunteers in this ministry  provide homework tutoring, offer a meal, and share the love of Jesus Christ as they serve these children. The ministry has taken off and lives have been changed. If you would like to get involved with our members who serve, please contact the Calvary Presbyterian Church Office @ Or if you would like more information visit:

Youth With a Mission - "Calling All Skaters"     Why Skateboarders?

Over the last 6 years I have been devoted to reaching skateboarders with the Gospel of Jesus. I have recognized my passion for skateboarding as a tool from God, that I can use to make Him known to the nations. The Lord has provoked my heart and opened my eyes to the great spiritual need within this unique culture. I use skateboarding as a platform from which I can establish relationships, share the Gospel and raise up disciples of Jesus who will continue on to do the same in their skateboarding communities. Everyone on earth needs to hear the true gospel, this includes skateboarders!

Why Barcelona?

I will be serving in Barcelona with Calling All Skaters, an international ministry with the vision of representing Jesus Christ in the skateboarding community worldwide. I will be joining a team of missionaries who are pioneering skateboarding ministry in Europe. Serving with this team I will follow the simple strategy presented below:

Connect through outreach, Disciple through relationship, Train to teach, Develop to lead.

Psalm 96:3 "Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples."

Hugh & Martine Wessel - In France

Hugh and Martine met in 1969 while Hugh was serving in the United States Army in Munich, Germany. They were converted at L'Abri in Switzerland in 1972, and were married by their pastor Francis Schaeffer in 1973. Upon completion of Master of Divinity studies at Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia, the Wessels applied to and were accepted as missionaries with the RPCES foreign missions board WPM, who then seconded them to MTW for service in France.

Hugh and Martine Wessel have been serving with Mission to the World since 1979. Currently, Hugh serves a French denomination as pastor/evangelist training and mentoring French pastors and lay-people in evangelism, discipleship and apologetics.

Hugh serves on various boards and committees in France: the French Bible Society, The Reformed Seminary in Aix-en-Provence, and denominational committees.

Martine has ministered through teaching Sunday school, using their home essentially for hospitality, and leading women's Bible studies.

Martine and Hugh have three  children: Laurence, Damaris, and Nils.
